Inktober 2019

The second half of 2019 for me was plagued with technical issues meaning that I have only just caught up with myself to be able to share my Inktober 2019 zine!

The zine and the real deal book.

For Inktober 2019 I went totally black and white using the Windsor and Newton ink that has the spider on the label. I also had a dippy pen and two paint brushes (a big one and a little one).

The 2019 prompt list. I never read ahead so I wouldn’t be able to spend days planning what one prompt might be. They were all equally badly thought out.

Started strong with a 90s vibe.

Sometimes a sketch (left hand page for sketches, right hand page for the real deal) was better than the final image.

Day 11 is a throwback to 2018’s ‘Beast from the East’ that brought snow to Cornwall where I was on holiday at the time. This was a snippet I heard from two people out in the snow on the quay. (If I ever make it back to Truro I really do need to go to that pub. Drink a cranberry juice in my faraway local.)

Day 29 saw a return of the surfers - there was a semi-enforced rule that I couldn’t use them for EVERY prompt. But how could I deny them the chance to showcase the classic kiwi problem of finding the kuku (mussels) in the salty shallows…ouch.

Yes! This zine has no detail spared.

To see any more you’ll have to buy a copy of the zine! There wont be any more of the thrilling behind the scenes stories about the drawings…maybe that’s for the best though!

Here’s hoping that now I have a laptop that doesn’t continuously scroll up and to the left, or one that randomly shuts down, there will be more regular updates around here again.
